Strange Circumstances Cover Update

The short story anthology I've been co-writing with David Chrisley and Marshall J. Stephens is approaching completion. I'm waiting for the last few stories so I can edit and format them before sending them off to Katy to do a final copy edit, but Renee at The Cover Counts has done a spectacular job with the cover. So, here is the unveiling of the backflap summary and the new cover.

The future’s a gamble. Few people know what they really want, and those that reach it often find that it isn’t what they expected. Strange Circumstances is an anthology of stories exploring the predictability of fate and destiny… or rather their unpredictability.

In the twelve twisted tales and fifteen flash-fiction pieces, Strange Circumstances explores the boundaries of our universe to see what lurks in the unknown, hidden within the mysteries of science, magic, extraterrestrials, religion and the paranormal. Amid celebrities who hit their peak and vanish, a tree that grows up from the floor of a moving train car, unspeakable conspiracy, monstrous espionage, and wicked sorcery, there is something within these pages for anyone who enjoys dark tales and twists of every sort.

Please let me know what you think and check out the other covers she's done for Scott Rhine and many more authors at The Cover Counts.

The Passing of a Childhood Legend

Anne McCaffrey was just another writer when I was a child attempting to find myself in a the big, bad, mysterious world; that is, until I picked up the first in a series of novels from my school library, Dragonsong. After devouring the series, I turned to Dragonriders of Pern and was soon distraught to find that I had exhausted the school's limited collection of Anne McCaffrey novels. As an avid reader, I found quite a few authors that could spin a wondrous yarn like Robert Jordan, JRR Tolkien, and Stephen King, but I discovered Anne McCaffrey early on and always loved her series about a young girl who finds dragon hatchlings that will forever change her life. The series was quite enjoyable and will always have a place in my heart.

Unfortunately, Mrs. McCaffrey passed on November 21st, 2011 following a stroke. It is hard to see someone whose work contributed so much to my youth pass on, but it is the way of our world and hers, Pern.

One-liners 71-75

Here are the latest One-liners from Twitter. Feel free to make use of them to help your own writing or just to consider the story surrounding the line.

One-liner 71: "...catch a tiger by its toe," muttered Frita's uncle as he grasped hers between two fingers. "See, you don't need this one."

One-liner 72 is brought to you by a very interesting discussion on Wattpad. See it for a laugh at

One-liner 72: Frik cursed as coffee covered his lap. Looking up, his jaw dropped as a planet jacked the front of his new Cadillac UFO #write

One-liner 73: If the story calls for it and you're too attached to a character to do it, that's when you know you must. #write #advice

One-liner 74: "Garrotes are wonderful, don't you think?" muttered the assassin. The banker's eyes widened as she groped for the alarm #write

One-liner 75: Football's a soldier's sport. But if players were issued M-16s and grenades, it would be the envy of politicians. #write

Hope you're enjoying them. Feel free to check past One-liners throughout my posts or follow me on Twitter @WestonKincade

Update on A Life of Death, the Podiobook

As of today, A Life of Death has been up on for its serialized audiobook podcast release for one entire month. I know I have had questions about how many people would see it and how many people are subscribed and will subscribe via all of the podcast networks like itunes etc... So, having nothing to compare it to from my research, I thought I'd give my numbers. Anyone with experience on that would like to contribute their first month's numbers, I'd love to hear from you. uses Liberated Syndication to host and upload the books and I've been able to track the downloads of A Life of Death's episodes. In the first month, A Life of Death has been download 2,650 times. However, from what I understand, this is only counting the downloads from I don't actually have a way of tracking how many times its been downloaded from podcast applications and computers using itunes etc...that aren't going directly to This is very exciting. I don't know how many people the book has gotten to beyond the 2,650 number, but even so, 2,650 is a lot of downloads. Now, to be fair, there are 12 episodes in the now finished podiobook and my guess is that this is tracking each time an episode is downloaded, not the entire book. So, if someone reads the entire book, they've downloaded it 12 times. But this is just my assumption.

So far as subscribers are concerned, again, I can't track the other applications tuned into my book, but I can track how many people are subscribed through specifically through their author tools. Here's the current break down:

Total Subscribers to date: 61
Total Active Subscribers to date: 51
Total Subscribers that have finished listening to A Life of Death to date: 24
Total Subscribers that have finished listening to A Life of Death to date and continued on to listen to the promotional sneak peek episode #12: 17 (This number may be skewed because I released the promotional episode two days ago, finishing the book.)
Total Subscribers that have stopped subscribing to the book and the last episode they listened to: 10
Episode Name # Subscriptions
Never Started Subscription 2
LifeofDeath 01 1
LifeofDeath 07 1
LifeofDeath 11 3
LifeofDeath 12 3

Overall, I'm quite happy to see the book reaching so many people and look forward to it reaching more people now that it is complete. There are a few episodes that could use some finetuning for better sound quality and such, so I'm working on that and then will compile them and sell the entire podiobook as one file that isn't broken up at an affordable price. That's the plan, along with my other projects.

Have a great Thanksgiving Holiday!
